Tsireya costume concept design.
Tsireya — the daughter of Metkayina leaders Ronal and Tonowari — is brought to life through an exquisitely crafted costume that reflects the soul of the reef 🌊
This costume concept art for Tsireya showcases the deep collaboration between art, nature, and storytelling. Developed by Kate Venables (https://www.instagram.com/katevenables) at Wētā Workshop, with final costume design by Deborah L. Scott (https://www.instagram.com/debscottcostumes/), every element is rooted in the Metkayina’s oceanic identity.
From hand-braided organic fibers to layered shell-like forms and translucent, sea-flower textures, the costume feels grown rather than made. The detailing echoes coral reefs, flowing tides, and marine life — reinforcing Tsireya’s connection to the ocean and her clan’s way of life. Each knot, bead, and sculpted piece reflects hours of artisan craftsmanship and an incredible respect for natural forms.
This is world-building at its finest: where costume design becomes culture, and fabric becomes a living extension of Pandora itself.
