Tonowari, the Olo'eyktan of the Metkayina reef clan

Tonowari, the Olo’eyktan of the Metkayina reef clan 🌊

This stunning costume concept art from Avatar: Fire and Ash showcases the incredible craftsmanship of Wētā Workshop, with costume design by Deborah L. Scott (https://www.instagram.com/debscottcostumes/).

Tonowari’s cloak is a masterpiece of layered storytelling—constructed from hand-tooled leather, carved wood, iridescent fish scales, and polished shells, finished with a tufted band and feathered lining that amplifies movement and texture.

The base of the cloak was entirely hand-knotted, and every single adornment was individually stitched.

At its peak, six artisans worked side by side, meticulously bringing this extraordinary garment to life.

This is world-building at its finest—where culture, character, and craftsmanship merge into one iconic silhouette.
